HAPPY WEEKEND.

good morning dear friends. it's friday and the weekend is almost here. i don't know how your work week went, but i am exhausted. i've worked every other day this week and it's going to continue until monday. when you work 12 hour shifts like i do, nothing seems worse...not even 4 days in a row.

on a brighter note, i spent a few days in good 'ol san francisco. the beauty of the tiny city never ceases to amaze me. however, as with all beautiful things, there is also a darker side of the city that one cannot ignore. but, i accept both sides of san francisco, the beauty part and the beast part...

do you have plans on going into san francisco this weekend? if you do, maybe you should stay clear of dolores park. have you heard? it got trashed on the fourth of july. but here is a photo i took of the park before dark when every single person i saw was having, what it appeared to be, the best time of their life. not sure if it was the alcohol or drugs talking...lol...but the energy of dolores park on the fourth of july was electrifying.

i hope you all have an electrifying weekend!

Shopoholics anonymous::electronic version

i think john and i are finally gung-ho about a DSLR. any suggestions?? we definately don't need a top of the line camera, just something that we can play around with. i'm not sure if you know this, but his latest obsession has been instagram! he finally joined a social network ; ) i think this helped solidify his decision on getting a camera.

BTW, if you're interested in following me on instagram, i'm at little_ol_me_ .

besides a DSLR, here are some other things that i've been itching to buy, but haven't plunked down the $$$ to purchase them.

How to write.

according to advertising legend David Ogilvy:

The better you write, the higher you go in Ogilvy & Mather. People who think well, write well.
Woolly minded people write woolly memos, woolly letters and woolly speeches.
Good writing is not a natural gift. You have to learn to write well. Here are 10 hints:
  1. Read the Roman-Raphaelson book on writing. Read it three times.
  2. Write the way you talk. Naturally.
  3. Use short words, short sentences and short paragraphs.
  4. Never use jargon words like reconceptualize, demassification, attitudinally, judgmentally. They are hallmarks of a pretentious ass.
  5. Never write more than two pages on any subject.
  6. Check your quotations.
  7. Never send a letter or a memo on the day you write it. Read it aloud the next morning—and then edit it.
  8. If it is something important, get a colleague to improve it.
  9. Before you send your letter or your memo, make sure it is crystal clear what you want the recipient to do.
  10. If you want ACTION, don't write. Go and tell the guy what you want.

i ask you this. what do you think makes a good writer???

Now it's a party...an arm party!

remember the good 'ol days when wearing a watch was sufficiant enough. nowadays, just a watch seems down right old skool, lame, lonely, boring, blas`e. i wrote about wanting a gold watch several posts ago, but i guess i should add several bracelets as well! or do i??? what do you guys think of this arm party business?? necessary or over the top?

Have you seen You've Got Mail? Of course you have.

the other day, i was reading one of my favorite blogs, a cup of jo. one of her posts was about Nora Ephron. do you know who she is?  she was an american writer who directed You've Got Mail. i don't know about you, but that is a classic in my book. she created kathleen kelly to be silly, funny, feminine yet strong, smart and witty, a true optimist, a woman that we would all want to be like or be friends with.

your legacy lives on Nora Ephron!

and now for some of my favorite still images from You've Got Mail:

On how we celebrated my sweetie's birthday.

by eating of course! we slept in yesterday, had some good morning conversations, and decided to stuff ourselves silly at John's (he said i could use his name now) favorite brunch joint, Brenda's French Soul Food. it was divine! the wait was rather long so we wandered around the neighborhood to hooker's sweet treats and got us some salted caramels and a hot chocolate to tide our appetites over.  it was a good, low key, relaxing afternoon. for dinner, we were supposed to eat at the broken record but was still so stuffed from our brunch meal that while the thought of pork waffle fries with cheese sauce, sweet potatertots, and pulled pork sandwiches usually makes us swoon, we felt kinda green just thinking of it. so we opted for a quiet night at home watching true blood. i wouldn't have it any other way. happy 34th birthday sweetie!
